Cooking is one of the oldest arts. Even in very distant times, a person tried not just to cook food, but to combine ingredients so that it turned out a hearty and tasty dish. Also since ancient times people began to write recipes, so today scientists have the opportunity to cook dishes that were eaten by the inhabitants of Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt or Rome. Interestingly, many of the oldest recipes have survived to this day, being part of the national cuisine.

Scientists have not been able to decipher clay plates from Mesopotamia for a long time. It was believed that these are pharmacist records, but later researchers realized that before them the oldest cookbook. It was prepared almost four thousand years ago. Bill Sutherland, a professor at the University of Cambridge, sitting in quarantine, decided to adapt these recipes for our days and prepared four dishes of Mesopotamian cuisine. Sharing with his followers on Twitter the results of this historically culinary experiment, the professor wrote:
"I decided to cook Babylonian food from a recipe plate. It was created in 1750 BC and it is the oldest of the existing recipes. I think I'm fine. It's the best Mesopotamian food I've ever eaten.".
